I've been sketching all day practically. I actually left the house in order to give myself a fighting chance away from my computer. So I headed down to Starfucks and got a number of sketches done for the Broken Kode Blook. Now when I sketch I'm very focused. You could move heaven and earth and I'm none the wiser, so practically nothing can distract me, except my computer.

So later on in the day I'm sitting in the living room with the guys as they watched the Chelsea v. Manchester United match, and during the half-time intermission an ad for the new Sony Bravia came one that actually made me look up. The reason was the music in the background. Now once they had my attention they rewarded me with arguably one of the best adverts I've seen in a good long while. Go have a look.

Now after watching it I thought, well that's some pretty special CGI effects they've got going here. Joke's on me it would seem, as the advert is completely real. How long did it take them to clean all the balls up? 250,000 balls. One of my favourite aspects is the frog. Brilliant footage.

The director is one Danish Nicolai Fuglsig. Damn those Danes, what is it about that country pumping out talented folk?
The song is by José González.

    1. I remember seeing a Flickr set about the making of this ad - I can't remember the URL, but it had some awesome shots.

    2. It's funny you should mention this ad. People have been asking me "did you see the ad with the bouncing balls"? 4 people asked me that!

Yes I saw it, yes, it's really nice, but what wows me is not how nice it is, it's how much word of mouth it's generated.

Talk about viral marketing for TV-ads.

    3. Yeah I know, but the thing is though we're subjected to such shitty ads, when one that's actually special comes along it's a breathe of fresh air. Am I more inclined to buy the TV? No not really, but that doesn't take away from the ad :).

    4. A high-definition download of the original Bravia commercial, a special extended edition, behind the scenes information, wallpapers, and a screensaver can be found here:

    5. Thanks for the link James, very cool, didn't know about that site.

That's the flickr set of the bouncy balls.

    7. Yea, I have read few bloggers' post about this ad, but never seen it for myself until couple days ago.

I saw the extended version, and I have to admit it is a cool and creative ad.

    8. The high-resolution version is really worth seeing.
However the extended version is twice as long but with half the charm, shot selection seems really haphazard and disappointing, and kind of gives up on that slo-motion mystery the original has. Too bad.

    9. @mister nobody: I've found that the actual visuals don't have the same impact if you see it without the music. It's really amazing how it looses all the magic without that song.

    10. There is no way those are real bouncy balls... surely not!!! It would be an absolute death trap, and also an environmental waste. It's a great ad though.

    12. Hi. I was just wondering if anyone knew the title and singer of the song in the background?
      Thanks :o)

    13. Maddi, it's Jose Gonzalez, and the song is called Hearbeats from the album Veneer.

    14. Love the ad! Has anyone seen any blogs or sites with personal pics? Apparently people watching the ad be made have set up blogs with pics.

    15. hi there
i was wondering if anyone of you has the screensaver without the sony-thing (just the bouncing balls) i'd like to use it for a presentation, thanks in advance

    17. i love the advert. The thing that really amazed me was the music. i was at my friends house and we were sitting on her bed chatting away, and then i just heard the most calming music ever, i looked up and saw thousand of bouncing balls (apparently 250,000) i couldnt believe the advert was soooo good. i thought it had to be done by graphics on a computer but its NOT!!! wow!! lol
