Manji Update - WordPress 1.5 Version

Manji is finally prepped and ready for WordPress Version 1.5.

First of all I'd like to thank everyone who's taken an interest in Manji. It's been an absolute joy watching all you wonderful people who have taken the code made it your own and come up with some fantastic designs. I've got to setup a gallery to set up to showcase all your wonderful designs, it's on my to-do list I promise you.

It's taken me 3 months to finally reach this stage where I can leave the code in peace knowning all the fixes that I wanted to get done have been completed and it's finally the way I want it. This is in no small part thanks to everyone who downloaded it and commented on the theme. (BTW the theme has been downloaded over 4000 times since it was launched on the 5th of December 2004, so again thanks for all the kind words and support).

Changes since Version 1.1 :

  1. I've tweaked the general font from Arial to Verdana. I'm in that mood right now so I've decided to go with that.
  2. The top navigation bar now automatically pics up the pages created. All you have to do now is create them and they'll pop up in your navigation menu. This is using WordPress's wp_list_pages tag.
  3. The template now remembers who visited and commented previously. It's the same little javascript found in action on BK. I like this little script so I've included it in here.
  4. WP's nextpage function now works for the individual pages as well. It was just a missing tag really, so can't really consider that a bug.

Manual Version 0.2

Apart from the above the major change for me is that the help manual has gone up to version 0.2. I've added 2 more pages and one thing I'm really happy about finally getting done is the structure mockup. For all those of you out there that are having trouble understanding the structure of CSS, this should help you understand everything very clearly. I've not actually made it look pretty, that'll come in future editions. This was one of my original ideas and I'm really glad to be able to offer it to people, with the promise that one for the typography will come as well. I think this is something that theme developers should spend some time on, because I remember what it was like to start off with this CSS stuff and be completely overwhelmed by what was going on. This little jpg should help you all in your question for CSS knowledge.

I don't think I'll be editing the code any more. The only reason the code is ever going to change from my POV is if Root wants to revisit the code and sort it out, in the only way he knows how. Otherwise all my attention (with respect to Manji that is) is going to be focused on the manual, Manji2 and other flavours, oh yes ^_^.

  • Great stuff, thanks for your continuing work on this Khaled!

  • I can't wait! I've been tinkering with Manji2 since v1.5 came out, but since you'll working on a revamped version, I'll just drool for now.

  • It's going to be a pretty drastic departure from what has already been established. You'll know it's Manji, but it's going to be different. I think Manji2 Version 1 will be a pretty popular one for the person who really doesn't want to change much, except maybe the colour scheme ^_^.

  • Will it be easy to use Nebula's color scheme?

  • Oh yeah sure, but once you see what I've got in store you'll understand what I mean by a departure. I'll probably release two versions to be honest, Nebular and another one which currently is going by the name of Cloud Flavoured Manji2, and eventually I guess release the same for Manji proper.

It was always my intention of providing several flavours, and the more I know what makes the code tick the more comfortable I am with putting my ideas down.

  • Very nice. I just remembered a problem with Manji and the Safari web browser. The quicktag buttons for the comments just display as gray blobs, no identification of what each does except for the link titles. Is this fixable? I know Safari has some odd javascript quirks. I could email you a screenshot. If you'd like that there's an email link on my site.

  • No that's not something I can sort out. Safari doesn't show them and there doesn't seem to be a fix for it. I know it's a problem, but alas Safari will just have to catch up really ^_^.

  • I think it will in v2. Only a month left before we know.

  • I am using my blog as a Gemini dev platform for 1.5. As soon as I am through that I am fitting manji. :)
A fantastic job Khaled. Without your vision, imagination, perseverance and people skills it would not have happened. By collaborating - and sharing generously - you have raised the design bar in the community single handedly. This is common in companies, in open source, unpaid and with a distributed community it can be extremely difficult. That is the real achievement. Plenty of people are going to want to work with you on whatever you choose. And I will be right up front if asked.
It had a very bad hiccough but for me working with you has been a rewarding and enriching experience and I learnt a hundred times more than I gave. That is your measure and I pay tribute - unashamedly to you.

  • Rootie, I'm blushing, don't know what to say. Thanks dude, faaaar too kind, seriously :).

Manji all started with ROCK solid foundations. Foundations that you gave. Don't belittle your massive contribution to the coding. We both know what a monkey I am when it comes to coding, I just had to hold it's hand for a little while.

Once you're ready to come back to Manji and complete what we started the door is always open. Hell we'll be doing one flavour a month, yes I've got a few mockups ready to go...

  • Hi!... Great theme you have there! Nice job! Thank you...

However, I'd like to ask a question... I wonder why doesn't this theme compatible with MicroWiki...? I'd like to integrate microwiki in my blog but couldn't find a way to do it, since Manji2 shows blank pages for every MicroWiki pages...

I hope someone would answer my question... Thank you... I appreciate any answers..
