I definitely noticed spamming coming through, which left me scratching my head (50 in like a few hours). I guess those spammers are seriously getting their ass kicked by Akismet, easily the only ESSENTIAL plugin you want to have as a blogger of any description. Damn, was it really that bad before this plugin? The answer I guess, it was worse, because there was no solution.
So THAT's why I suddenly got a burst. Interesting.
It's been a long time since I've had the fun of moderating spam. Akismet's effectiveness rather makes you forget just have pervasive the problem really is—and my problems aren't even that bad (just a measly little personal blog on my end).
Same happened for me. Indeed Akismet really does the trick. Fine work there.
For me, I can see now, it's Akismet or "need previously approved comment".
It's not essential if your journal doesn't get any traffic :(

Bad spammers! That happened to me too on several occasions. Akismet cleans up everything for me. No worries anymore.
