Quick thoughts on the new online service provided by Crazy Egg. I've been using it for about a week now. It's another way of looking at how users interact with your site. I use Mint for my stats package; Crazyegg provides three levels of visualisation of where the majority of visitors click on your site. It's got a great 'killer' feature in the heatmaps, however it definitely falls in the nice to have category, and at $19/month, it's definitely not that nice to have. See I would actually pay money for Akismet, because it provides me with what I see as an essential service, one that would drive me insane if I didn't have it implemented, Crazyegg doesn't.

Why can't people who have a killer idea and have done their jobs correctly, pay some more attention to the pricing. I do believe that it's got some great features and it looks great, but ultimately I feel it might suffer the same problems as Feedlounge did, overestimating what the majority userbase will fork cash for.

    1. I don't think $19/month is much for Crazy Egg. Just I don't think CrzayEgg is that much blog-orientated.
The heatmap is important when redesigning huge, commercial platforms IMHO. And then the price certainly is justified.

My blog? I know where the links are and if I want to know their popularity I use MyBlogLog. ;)

    2. So does Feed Crier.

    3. Hi, Hiten from Crazy Egg here...
I understand your feelings about the $19 plan, but thats why we have a free plan :-)

And, Franky is right, this is something not exactly meant for bloggers, unless they are making some revenue on their website(s) and wanting to adjust their ad placements, etc... But our free plan will allow anyone who wants a heatmap to get one, so we figured we should charge for more visits, since it costs us money to track more visits. Thanks for trying us out!

    4. It's the best time for such service, this crazy egg may better than the regular, basic website statistics we all complain about. The limitation is awful.

    5. Hiten - Thanks for the response. Yeah I realised that was the case, however it's just that for average blogger, 19 is a bit much, and I felt that it's a bit of a missed opportunity to not try and include them more closely, by raising the basic price. I get more than 5000 hits a month, so the free plan ain't so great for me to be honest. But it's cool, carry on, I'm sure your userbase will love it.

    6. Khaled, I hear you load and clear, but Crazy Egg is not meant to track every one of your visitors on every page, it's meant to track a portion of your visitors so you can improve your design. If you put it on your home page and maybe a sub-page or two, you might notice some patterns that web analytics packages do not clearly show you, thus you can improve your layout and re-test. This is why we have made it so you can choose the amount of visitors / days you want to to track on each test. Either way, I do appreciate you taking a look, and definately will consider your thoughts further, and see what we can do to accomodate bloggers such as you.
