The new London 2012 branding was unveiled today and seriously, it's very funny how the organisers have got this soo spectacularly wrong. I don't even know what the fuck this piece of shit is actually meant to be (also check out the absolutely heinous website) - Update: Seems they've launched the site 4 days early since they saw what an absolute pile of shit their 'placeholder' actually was. I mean my placeholder is not better but at least you can read the text and it doesn't hurt your eyes from the sheer stupid colour choices.
I'm to understand that it says 2012 but I mean seriously, what the hell were they thinking.

What I find really ironic is how the British design press (Creative Review, I'm looking at you) kept harping on how the Athens Olympics logo just wasn't all that great. Personally and I'll admit that my opinion on the subject may be slightly biased but I thought the Athens Olympic logo was miles better, miles and miles better.

Damn right it's better!
My goodness that is downright fugly for a £400,000 'brand'! It's suppose to be welcoming but it's a damn turnoff. No one will ever want to remember this not even after a year!
That is so much more class!
Whoops html not supported in comments...
I meant this is much more class.

I agree entirely, I have a blog post on it coming up. It's incredible just how wrong they have got it. Athens one is much nicer, but the Chicago 2016 logo is by far the nicest, classiest of the bunch. As for CR, I haven't picked up one of their mags in over a year, they just don't seem to do it for me.
"When people see the new brand, we want them to be inspired to make a positive change in their life." - Tony Blair
'Nuff said.
Chicago's has batman in it!
I saw this in the news and nearly puked. You couldn't get a logo that's more irrelevant to the olympics... what the hell were they thinking?!
I'd have thought Seb Coe was above all of this but:
"This is the vision at the very heart of our brand," said London 2012 organising committee chairman Seb Coe.
"It will define the venues we build and the Games we hold and act as a reminder of our promise to use the Olympic spirit to inspire everyone and reach out to young people around the world.
"It is an invitation to take part and be involved."
WTF?
Phil, where can I see the Chicago logo?
Probably referring to all those people who can take part in the paralympics after seeing the brand video.
I think I'm one of the few people who quite like the logo! I like that it has 2012 in it, and to me at least (and I've not seen anyone else mention it), it kind of looks a little like a lion as well, the '0' being his head with a big mane...
Originally, it looked like a blob of pink nastiness. Then I realized it was "2012," but in the form of four blobs of pink nastiness.
Maybe their goal all along was to make it so disgusting that it would become infamous in the blogosphere. Or maybe the design isn't that great.
