The Superman Returns teaser trailer is up and it did give me goosebumps. Mainly the Marlon Brando voice to be honest. The music was completely spot on, created all the atmosphere I could have hoped for. I will echo a couple of comments I've heard online about the fact that it doesn't really look like Metropolis and more like Gotham, but I think that's just the trailer. My favourite part is easily the jump scene in the fields.
I LOVE the music, and the Brando voiceover worked as well as the Alec Guinnes voiceover for the first Star Wars 3 trailer.
Suddenly the superman suit seems sligthly less lame.
Now I have no idea what (if any) the connection will be to the old Reeve Superman flicks. Is this a "restart" like Batman Begins? Or a pseudo sequel?
That's actually something I've not really been able to understand either. It seems that Singer is hacking loads of footage of Brando and stuff so I'm thinking it's a pseudo sequel which is very odd, but then again it is called Superman Returns, so maybe the title gives that away? They could have called it Superman, since the first one from 1978 was actually called Superman: The Movie. Technical point I know but still valid...
Well the thing I'm boggling at, is the fact that on one hand it's got the original music, and Brando, and the "original with a sligth twist" costume... on the other hand, it looks to be a "creation story", with Clark coming to earth, the Kent foster parents finding him, his growing up learning his powers, later on moving to Metropolis and meeting Louis lane.
If it WAS a sequel, why would they show all this again, considering that's what the old Superman movie showed?
Perhaps it's a re-make, with an "homage" twist?
Did you notice the shot in the barn of the original spaceship? I wasnt' expecting so many connections to the first movie. Thanks for the trailer news.

Joen, yeah I think that's probably what they're going for, which I'm not really sure how to see. Is there a point? I guess for this particular movie with the history it's got behind it, it's pretty important to get the fans on your side, clever homage is a sure fire way to create positive buzz, that they GET it. Clever hollywood tricks I guess.
Cadmus, no I didn't notice that but I'm definitely going RIGHT NOW to check it out, waay too cool.
Well, if the remake-of-sorts is their way to go, my guess is there are only two reasons:
* The music
* The Brando voice
(Which are both featured in the teaser, probably not a coincidence).
I can live with that.
from what I've heard, (watch the bluetights.net production video-diaries) Singer considers this to be in between superman 1 and superman... I don't remember which. the origin story bits are really just a few minutes of the film (from what I understand) as everyone knows the Superman origin (which I'm glad of, I don't need yet another 30 minutes wasted telling the story I already know).
When Superman Returns (SR) was originally announced years and years ago I was wary. I've remained wary up until I saw those production diaries. Singer soothed my nerves. I'm far more comfortable now.
Regarding the suit, at first I was terrified. I like the coloring, I like the darker red leather. What I didn't like was that the darker red leather reminded me of Affleck's DareDevil costume. That just gave me shivers on initial viewing. It's grown on me and I'm certain with proper lighting and all that jazz it will look great and when the movie comes out we'll all be saying, "I can't wait for SR II".

hehe trailer was okay, but it was really really a teaser (yeah I know it's supposed to be) as it didn't show you too much of him in action. But I am sure as it draws closer to release more will be revealed.
The jump scene was okay, though it reminded me of the Incredible Hulk movie with him jumping across the desert.

From what I have read, the filmmakers are only honoring Superman and Superman 2 as canon to Superman Returns. Therefore, Superman Returns must be a sequel to Superman 2 (IOW, SR will be the "official" Superman 3).
Of course, it is possible that Superman Returns is not a sequel, and that "Returns" simply reflects and integral part of the plot:
But, "a soaring new chapter" leads me to believe that original sequel speculation is probably true.
With that being said, SR looks nice. But, if Sandy Collora ever decided to finish World's Finest, it would probably be better. ^_-
All I'm saying is that if you ignore the visuals and only listen to the voiceover, it sounds like brando's talking about jesus. all im saying.

The movie is set after the first batch of movies, I dont know whether Singer has disregarded the two lamer of the movies (Or Superman 3 and Superman4: The quest for peace as they are officially known lol) but i do know its set after his battle with general zod. Superman has left earth in search of any survivng kryptonians, so he flies all the way to the ruins of krypton. Meanwhile Lex Luthor has gotten out of prison and is plotting a way of finishing superman off for good. Lois now has a son but still has feelings for the caped one. Thats all i know of.
